Most of Johannesburg Left Without Electricity
Many areas of Johannesburg, the economic capital of South Africa, were left without electricity on Friday following a fire at one of the city’s substations. The city authorities have already announced that this could be attributed to sabotage, according to local eNCA television, as reported by TASS.
“We are dealing with a systematic operation aimed at sabotaging Johannesburg’s electrical system,” said Mayor Mpho Phalatse.
Phalatse mentioned that the current fire at the Eldorado Park substation was preceded by criminal activities in its vicinity by criminal elements. According to the mayor, the thieves are stealing valuable equipment, including copper cables. “Such operations occur not only in Johannesburg but also in other parts of the country,” he said, adding, “It’s time to put an end to this.”
