Moscow's Position on the Signing of a Peace Agreement Between Yerevan and Baku
Moscow is determined to facilitate the signing of a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The 'main principles for establishing interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia' proposed by Baku and Yerevan's response to them should serve as the basis for the start of negotiations on a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia," Zakharova noted.
She also reminded that on February 24, Washington and Paris suspended all communications with Moscow within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group's co-chairing "trio."
"Meanwhile, the actual situation in the South Caucasus does not allow for pauses in negotiations. Continued, consistent steps are required to restore long-term peace and stability in the region, especially since the USA and France have ceased cooperation as co-chairs," she stated.
Zakharova reported that the Russian co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, Igor Khovaev, will continue to work as a special representative of the Russian Foreign Minister to promote the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to her, Khovaev's focus will be on preparing the peace treaty.
"We believe that contributions will be made to Khovaev's efforts in Yerevan and Baku. We are open to constructive cooperation with interested parties," Zakharova said.
