Government Increases Cannabis Production and Export Quotas
During today’s session, the government adopted a decision to revise the quotas for the production of industrial hemp, increasing the export and wholesale trade quotas that were set a year ago.
According to the decision made on July 15, 2021, each individual can produce a maximum of up to 20,000 liters of cannabidiol (cannabis oil), but can only sell or export 100 liters at wholesale. “In this case, the question arises as to how the remaining quantity will be utilized,” the draft decision adopted by the government states.
In order to rectify such inaccuracies, the government has revised the export and wholesale trade quotas. The same decision will also increase the export quotas for industrial hemp.
The licensing process for companies engaged in cannabis production and sales will be carried out by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, the National Security Service, and the police. Companies cannot obtain a license if any of their employees have a prior conviction related to drug offenses or psychotropic substances, have struggled with addiction, or are minors.
The submitted business plan must include the conditions, characteristics, productivity, revenues, and expenses for the cultivation and processing of industrial hemp plants for the next three years.
