There is an Opportunity to Establish a Ceasefire: Cavusoglu's Statement
Turkey is working to organize a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was stated today by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, according to TASS news agency.
“We are negotiating with both parties and making efforts to organize the meeting,” he said. He noted that the holding of the meeting depends on the Russian leader's approval.
Çavuşoğlu believes that a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine is not a distant prospect. “After the events in Bucha, both sides made many condemning statements against each other. This affected the negotiation process. We continue to communicate with the parties. We approach the current state of negotiations neither with optimism nor pessimism,” he said.
Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey will continue its communications with Moscow and Kyiv, as it “can help the parties find solutions to problematic issues.” “Yes, the events in Bucha had a negative impact on the negotiations, however, despite all the difficulties, there is an opportunity to establish a ceasefire,” he said.
