US Acknowledges Europeans Unprepared to Endure Negative Consequences of Anti-Russian Sanctions

The rising prices of energy, food, fuel, and utilities in European Union countries are undermining the resolve to support anti-Russian sanctions, reports The Wall Street Journal. The author asserts that Europe is facing a sharp turn to the "right," with far-right and right-wing parties expected to gain power in several European nations.

“In France, Le Pen's campaign has focused on the economic consequences of inflation. She has held rallies in small rural towns, promising to reduce taxes on fuel and other essentials and to promote wage increases for businesses... The leader of the Italian anti-immigrant League party, Matteo Salvini, is also concentrating on taxes and the economy,” the author writes.

Compared to March-April 2021, electricity prices have increased by 44.7%. According to surveys conducted in Europe, up to 80% of Germans, Italians, and Spaniards expect a sharp rise in monthly expenditures.
