Investigative Committee Provides Details on Intentional Arson Case Against Neighbor

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an inquiry into all circumstances surrounding a 38-year-old man's attempted murder of his neighbor in Yerevan's Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

According to the information received from the National Center for Burns, a 37-year-old man was admitted for emergency medical assistance with serious burn shock affecting 45% of his body, including burns to the head, neck, chest, and back.

Initial urgent measures revealed several circumstances surrounding the man’s injuries. Preliminary data indicates that on April 8, 2022, at approximately 6:30 PM, a dispute over domestic issues occurred between residents aged 37 and 38 in the stairwell of one of the buildings on Gurgen Mahari Street in Yerevan. During this altercation, the younger resident allegedly intended to take the life of his neighbor by lighting and throwing firecrackers at his feet, and then poured gasoline on him and set him ablaze. However, the crime could not be completed due to the timely arrival of emergency medical personnel who provided first aid, after which the victim was transported to a medical center.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 34-104, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, and the preliminary investigation has been assigned to the investigative group. During the investigation, a plastic bottle and remnants of the exploded firecracker were found and seized from the scene in the stairwell of the first floor. Several individuals have been interrogated, and forensic medical and forensic chemical examinations have been appointed to clarify significant circumstances related to the criminal case.

The 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of his neighbor. The preliminary investigation is ongoing, with investigative and procedural actions being taken to ensure an objective and comprehensive examination of the case.
