Pashinyan Acquitted in March 1 Case

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has been acquitted in the March 1 case. The Court of Cassation, presided over by Judge Hamlet Asatryan, overturned the 2010 verdict issued against him.

The ruling annulled the conviction based on Article 225, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (Mass Rioting) from the January 19, 2010 decision of the Yerevan First Instance Court and the March 9, 2010 ruling of the Court of Appeal.

Nikol Pashinyan was recognized as innocent and acquitted of the charges under Article 225, Part 1. According to the decision of the Court of Cassation, the criminal proceedings were terminated due to the lack of criminal composition.

Sasun Mikayelyan, the head of the Yelk parliamentary faction and a former member of parliament, was also acquitted in the March 1 case, where he was accused of organizing mass disturbances. The Court of Cassation published its decision, declaring him innocent and overturning the 2009 verdict against him.

It is noteworthy that the Prosecutor General of Armenia, Artur Davtyan, had filed a cassation appeal requesting the annulment of the previous conviction handed down in the case against Nikol Pashinyan and his acquittal.
