Border Security Must Prioritize Full Realization of Human Rights: Human Rights Defender

Border security must first and foremost prioritize an environment that fully ensures the realization of human rights. This is reported by the staff of the Human Rights Defender (HRD).

It is noted that Human Rights Defender Kristinne Grigoryan today received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Armenia, Nicolas Jacob Schermers.

At the ambassador's suggestion, Defender Grigoryan presented the priority issues of the HRD institution. In particular, she emphasized the security environment issues related to human rights, stressing that border security must primarily prioritize an environment that fully ensures the realization of human rights.

Next, Kristinne Grigoryan presented the priority issues concerning prisoners of war, other detained persons, as well as missing persons and their families, which are conditioned by post-war challenges. She also addressed the necessity of implementing effective mechanisms with the involvement of all stakeholders, including the media, to prohibit all forms of discrimination and prevent domestic violence, as well as to eliminate hate speech.

The Defender also highlighted the priority of issues concerning children with disabilities, viewing them as capable forces contributing to public life.

In response to the presented priorities, the ambassador shared the Dutch experience in applying multi-party democratic measures to eliminate hate speech, and agreements were reached on identifying the issues with the involvement of experts and finding institutional solutions within the framework of possible cooperation directions.

Summarizing the meeting, both parties expressed their willingness to deepen cooperation within the framework of the agreements reached.
