Turkish Sappers Conduct Demining Operations in Occupied Artsakh Territories

Azerbaijan's armed forces, with the assistance of a Turkish army sapper unit, are carrying out demining operations in the occupied territories of Artsakh and the surrounding areas. This information is reported by Ermenihaber.am.

A correspondent from Turkey's Anadolu Agency states that since the signing of the trilateral statement on November 10, 2020, a total of 23,000 hectares have been cleared of mines. During this period, more than 26,000 unexploded ordnance, 19,000 anti-personnel mines, and 10,000 anti-tank mines have been discovered and neutralized.

It is noted that in areas mined by Armenian forces, there have been 37 Azerbaijani fatalities due to landmine explosions from November 10, 2020, to the present. Additionally, 111 Azerbaijani soldiers and 49 civilians have been injured from landmine detonations during the same timeframe.

It is emphasized that Armenia has provided Azerbaijan with maps of the mined territories in exchange for its prisoners of war. “However, these maps have only 25% accuracy,” complains the Turkish source.
