In Diplomacy, One Must Try to Find Answers Between the Lines: Vardanian on Negotiations
Information about the negotiations was disseminated quite late yesterday; as you know, a moderate optimism was expressed by Charles Michel. In this regard, it should be noted that the parties have shown a willingness to move forward, although it is still early to talk about specifics. This was stated by ruling faction MP Vladimir Vardanian during a conversation with reporters at the National Assembly.
“It seems that there is a common approach and a desire to progress within the framework of negotiations,” he added.
Addressing the observation that there was no mention of Artsakh and its status in the statement, Vardanian remarked: “We have repeatedly emphasized the issues concerning the rights of the people of Artsakh in many discussions and observations, stressing that this is a question that needs to be resolved based on the fact that we have a people, and that people have rights that must be realized. In this case, the discussion has centered around Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, the implementation of the agreements reached, and the formation of a climate of mutual trust.
It is not always necessary in diplomacy to try to find answers in the texts; one must also consider what is written between the lines. When discussing the formation of a climate of mutual trust and security, this also implies the undertaking of certain measures that will later enable the avoidance of incidents. The topics being discussed in Brussels have primarily focused on issues concerning the clarification of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations,” Vardanian said.
