If Russia Falls, Peacekeepers Will Leave Azerbaijani Territory: Absurd Statement by Azerbaijani MP
Azerbaijani MP Agil Abas, a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission for Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of Russia and the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan, stated that Russia's defeat in Ukraine would be beneficial for Baku. He made these remarks in an interview with one of the Azerbaijani news outlets, as reported by Infoteka24.
“If Russia falls, the peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh will automatically leave Azerbaijani territory, and we will have the opportunity to speak to and discuss with the Armenians living there, whether they will accept Azerbaijani citizenship and live there as humans or leave. Let no one doubt. In any case, Russia will be defeated by Ukraine, and this is advantageous for Azerbaijan,” said Abas.
It is worth noting that on February 22 of this year, Azerbaijan and Russia signed a Declaration on Allied Cooperation; however, even the new status of bilateral relations does not prevent Azerbaijani political figures from expressing anti-Russian sentiments, suggesting that Baku does not consider Russia a true ally and is pursuing an overtly hostile policy.
