German Retail Stores Increase Food Prices Due to Ukraine Operation

Major German retail chains such as Aldi, Rewe, Lidl, and Edeka will be forced to significantly raise food prices due to the Russian operation in Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions. This was reported by Focus.de.

"Prices may rise again for Easter. The reason is that the existing supply cannot meet the higher demand," the media outlet notes.

Specifically, an increase in prices for butter, cheese, sausages, jams, and chocolate is expected. The publication urged German citizens to pay attention to discount brochures and to shop in advance, while advising against stockpiling and instead suggesting to buy cautiously in order to consume products within a month.

Earlier, Germany's Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir urged fellow citizens to waste less food and to eat as little meat as possible to withstand Russia, which he believes is using food supplies as a weapon.
