Lithuania Considers Closing Border with Russia and Belarus
Lithuanian authorities are contemplating the possibility of closing the border with Russia and Belarus. This was announced to reporters on Monday by the Baltic Republic's Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
"Discussions are ongoing; I cannot specify a timeframe for when decisions will be made, we will announce it at that time," he stated. According to the foreign minister, "it is still early to speak about this issue."
On Monday, Landsbergis announced that the government has decided to lower the diplomatic mission status of the Russian-Lithuanian diplomatic mission. The Cabinet of Ministers of the Baltic Republic has ordered the Russian ambassador to leave Vilnius and has recalled the Lithuanian ambassador from Moscow. The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Klaipeda will also be closed.
It is noted that Lithuania only borders the Kaliningrad region.
