Kadyrov Criticizes Peskov Over Ivan Urgant
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov responded to statements by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov regarding his declaration that TV host Ivan Urgant is a patriot, although he has temporarily left the country.
According to Lenta.ru, Peskov offered his definition of the concept of 'patriotism'. He stated, 'The essence of patriotism lies in the readiness to sacrifice for the welfare of the country. Patriotism is love for one’s homeland and the willingness to make any sacrifice for it when the need arises. That is what patriotism is. And everything that fits within this understanding—this is all patriotism,' said Dmitry Peskov.
Earlier, Dmitry Peskov had referred to Ivan Urgant as a great patriot, noting that the TV host may have his own opinion. The Kremlin spokesperson expressed that he does not consider those who have left the country out of fear or misunderstanding of the situation as enemies of the state.
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov criticized Peskov's statement. He specifically remarked, 'I didn’t know, it turns out that in order to become a patriot, one must criticize Russia's actions, go abroad, raise a loud and miserable clamor, and then return as if nothing happened.'
