Extraordinary Incident in Yerevan: Emergency Services Defuse a Shell Found in Residential Area

Today, April 4, an extraordinary incident occurred in Yerevan. At around 17:30, the 911 crisis management center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations received a call from citizens reporting that, during the replacement of water pipes, they had discovered a shell-like object while digging a pit.

According to Shamshyan.com, an operational unit from the Ministry of Emergency Situations' 9th fire-rescue squad arrived swiftly at the scene. An operational group from the police department of Nor Nork, led by a community police unit inspector, also arrived promptly.

It was determined that while digging a pit for the purpose of replacing water pipes, workers had discovered an unknown-origin shell, and specialized experts were needed for its defusal. Mine clearance personnel Martin Atoyan, Edgar Davtyan, and Onik Davtyan from the fire-rescue and engineering units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations subsequently arrived.

The specialists carefully transported the shell in a special box filled with sand, intending to take it to the well-known dumps in the Armavir region for destruction via detonation.

The shell was military-grade, and had the citizens not exercised caution upon discovering it, an explosion could have occurred, causing harm to nearby people and structures. Materials are being prepared on the matter.
