Baku Reports That 100 Remains Have Been Handed Over to Azerbaijan

Remains of 100 individuals considered missing in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War have been handed over to Azerbaijan. This was stated today by Ismail Akhundov, the Secretary of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Citizens, during a meeting with journalists, as reported by the APA agency.

He mentioned that the remains of approximately 60 individuals were discovered by Azerbaijani military personnel and others, and were transferred for forensic examination. “DNA samples have been taken. Our last operation took place on the Parukh heights. However, we believe this is not the end. Therefore, we will return there and continue the exhumation work. Remains have also been found in the Fizuli region. In Fizuli, due to mines, we are still unable to conduct exhumations. After the areas are cleared of mines, we will also carry out that work there,” Akhundov stated.

It is noteworthy that on February 9, during a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia had handed over the remains of 108 individuals considered missing from the First Nagorno-Karabakh War to Azerbaijan. The Prime Minister also mentioned that in the coming days, the Armenian side is preparing to transfer the remains of another two individuals.
