Pakistan's Prime Minister Dissolves Cabinet

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has dissolved the cabinet, announced the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Farrukh Habib. “The Prime Minister will continue to perform his duties as per Article 224 of the Constitution. The cabinet has been dissolved,” the minister wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan stated that he had asked the President to dissolve the parliament. Last week, Pakistan's ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, lost the support of its main coalition partner, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, effectively losing its majority in the parliament.

The opposition needed just 172 votes to bring a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. With the entry of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, the opposition has secured 177 votes in parliament, compared to the ruling party's 164 votes.

Opposition parties have accused Khan's government of sharp inflation, while Khan has blamed opposition leaders for attempting to oust him from office as he refused to tolerate their alleged corrupt dealings.
