China's Foreign Ministry: We Will Not Take Any Special Measures to Circumvent US and Western Sanctions Against Russia

China has no intention of taking any special steps to circumvent the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the West. Beijing will continue to develop normal trade relations with the Russian Federation and other countries, stated Wang Lutong, Director of the European Department at China's Foreign Ministry, during a press conference, as reported by Interfax.

"We will not take any special measures to bypass the US and Western sanctions against Russia," he said during a press briefing held prior to the China-EU summit.

Wang Lutong emphasized that this situation should not affect China’s normal economic cooperation with other countries, noting that Europe continues trade with Russia, thus sanctions "should not impact China's regular trade relations with Moscow."

The diplomat reminded that "China is not a party to the conflict" and is contributing to the development of global trade while firmly opposing the use of sanctions.

Wang Lutong highlighted that China has always advocated for the resolution of all conflicts through negotiations and consultations, and Beijing welcomes Russian-Ukrainian talks. At the same time, he stated that China’s ability to influence Russia should not be overestimated and that it should not be assumed that if Beijing urges Moscow to cease military operations, Russia will comply.
