The President of Artsakh, Defense Army Commanders, and Others Interrogated: 'Haykakan Jamanak'
‘Haykakan Jamanak’ newspaper reports that the Prosecutor General of Armenia, Artur Davtyan, has presented a report on last year's activities to the National Assembly, which will be discussed in the upcoming session of the Parliament. The former Human Rights Defender has also presented an annual report, remaining active and holding opposition views even after stepping down, so a meeting between him and the parliamentary majority is expected to be noteworthy.
The Prosecutor’s report is extensive, comprising 313 pages. It notes that, compared to the previous year, the number of crimes increased by approximately 15 percent in 2021, amounting to 3,800 cases. Additionally, there are 2,000 cases under investigation related to the 44-day war, including crimes potentially committed by high-ranking officials that had negative consequences on the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces, which led to the catastrophic outcome of the war, as well as information and reports received regarding negotiations for the transfer of Artsakh territories for billions of dollars as a result of connections between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
These cases are unprecedented in scale; in the Shushi bombing case alone, around 150 individuals have been interrogated, including the Chair of the Security Council, commanders of the Defense Army, a consultant to the President of Artsakh, the Deputy Commander of the Defense Army, and the former Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh. Further details will be addressed in the coming days.
It is worth noting that the term of the Prosecutor General expires in September, and this will essentially be Artur Davtyan's 'swan song.'
