Arayik Harutyunyan on the Situation in Karaglukh
Under the leadership of President Harutyunyan, a regular meeting of the Security Council has been held in an expanded format.
In his opening remarks, the head of state noted that the frequent meetings of the Security Council in recent days are due to the military-political situation in the Republic, particularly the developments taking place in the eastern part of Artsakh.
Addressing what has occurred and the steps to be taken, President Harutyunyan expressed gratitude to the Defense Army, other law enforcement agencies, and volunteers who have managed to accomplish their assigned task of halting the opponent's advance in a short period of time.
“We understand that their goal has been to capture all of Karaglukh. We must record that the main height of Karaglukh, the highest point, is under our control; however, some important heights are currently under the control of the Azerbaijani armed forces. Our goal is to ensure that the Azerbaijanis retreat to their starting positions. Our demand and request to the peacekeeping forces has been that the status quo, which arises from the trilateral statement, must be restored. This demand will never change,” said President Harutyunyan.
Harutyunyan expressed confidence that the aim of the provocation instigated by Azerbaijan was primarily to discredit the role of the Russian peacekeeping forces. “We believe that the Russian peacekeeping forces continue to fulfill their mission, aside from that incident,” he emphasized.
Nevertheless, the President of Artsakh stressed the need to maintain high vigilance until it is clear that Azerbaijan will not resort to such provocations again. “For this reason, we will take much more radical and decisive steps in terms of our self-defense in the future,” said President Harutyunyan.
During the meeting, Defense Minister Kamo Vardanyan presented a report on the operational and tactical situation along the contact line. Throughout the discussion of agenda items, President Harutyunyan provided a number of directives to the heads of relevant agencies.
