With Regret I Record: Pashinyan on the Arrest of the Minister of Emergency Situations

This week, law enforcement agencies have conducted searches as part of a criminal case initiated within the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which is being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this during a government meeting.

“At this moment, there are individuals arrested in connection with this case, including the Minister of Emergency Situations, Andranik Piloyan. I say this with regret; it is a very sad fact. Of course, we have no right to disregard anyone's presumption of innocence, but I also want to express that we have publicly committed to a zero tolerance policy towards corruption, and it is crucial that we consistently uphold that principle.

There needs to be a preliminary investigation, the case will go to court, and only with the court’s verdict will it be possible to draw any conclusions. At this moment, we merely note that this situation is not pleasant, but I believe that our commitments to the public and the rule of law are much more important.

I am convinced that the preliminary investigation will be conducted objectively, in accordance with the letter and spirit of the law, and all those responsible will receive the punishment prescribed by law,” Pashinyan said.
