Two Earthquakes Recorded in Armenia in the Last Week
From March 23 to 30, the Seismic Protection Territorial Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations registered two earthquakes with a magnitude of 2-3 or higher in the territories of Armenia and Artsakh.
On March 23, in the Armenia-Georgia border area, 9 km east of the village of Bavra, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4-5 was felt in the villages of Bavra, Saragyugh, Ashotzk, Sizavet, and Ghazanchi in the Shirak Province at a level of 3, and in the towns of Tashir, Alaverdi, and Vanadzor, as well as in the village of Paghaghbyur in Lori Province, and in the city of Gyumri in Shirak Province, and in the cities of Ijevan and Noyemberyan in Tavush Province at 2-3 levels.
On March 24, an earthquake of magnitude 4 was recorded 18 km northeast of the village of Bavra in the Georgia-Armenia border area, which was felt as 3-4 levels in the village of Bavra in Shirak Province and in the village of Paghaghbyur in Lori Province.
Furthermore, there were five earthquakes recorded in the region with a magnitude of 3 and higher. On March 23, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4-5 occurred 12 km southwest of the city of Marand in Iran. On March 25, a 3-4 magnitude earthquake occurred 27 km northeast of the city of Van in Turkey. On March 26, a 3 magnitude earthquake was recorded 12 km northeast of the village of Bavra in the Georgia-Armenia border area. On March 29, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4-5 occurred 50 km southeast of the city of Ahar in Iran and another earthquake of 3 magnitude was recorded 26 km southeast of the city of Tovuz in Azerbaijan.
Outside the region, there were two earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.0 or higher registered. On March 23 and 30, seismic events of magnitudes 6.0 and 6.7 occurred in the territories of Vanuatu and New Caledonia, respectively. There have been no reported casualties or damages from the earthquakes.
