Putin and Pashinyan Agree to Take Steps for Swift Resolution of Situation in Artsakh
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, spoke over the phone today. This information was reported by the government’s press service.
“Pashinyan presented to the Russian president the situation that arose following the incursion of Azerbaijani units into the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, and noted with regret that the situation has not only failed to stabilize but, according to some data, new provocations by Azerbaijani units may occur in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent,” the statement said.
The Prime Minister also detailed the tactics employed by Azerbaijan, which includes using loudspeakers to terrorize and exert psychological pressure on the residents of villages in Nagorno-Karabakh. Pashinyan emphasized again that these actions of Azerbaijani units and their incursion into the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent raise concerns, and he thanked the Russian president for his positive attitude towards conducting an investigation into that situation.
Pashinyan presented the Armenian side's expectation that the Russian peacekeeping contingent would take measures to remove the Azerbaijani invading units from the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers.
The leaders of the two countries agreed to take steps to swiftly resolve the situation. They both emphasized the importance of fully implementing the trilateral statements of November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021, and November 26, involving the Russian president, the Armenian prime minister, and the Azerbaijani president.
