Israel and Turkey Discuss Construction of Alternative Gas Pipeline to Southern Europe

The authorities of Israel and Turkey are discussing the construction of a gas pipeline that would create an alternative for gas supplies from Russia to southern Europe, according to Reuters. As announced in Turkey, negotiations on this topic have been ongoing throughout March, and concrete decisions regarding the route and participants in the project could be made in the coming months.

The pipeline, which will be approximately 500-550 km long, is expected to cost around $1.5 billion, which is more economical than the Eastern Mediterranean gas pipeline (from Israel to Cyprus, Greece, and Italy) that costs €6 billion, the report notes.
