Armenian Diplomacy Has Fundamental Achievements, Says David Babayan

Armenian diplomacy, particularly its Artsakh component, indeed has fundamental achievements. This was stated by David Babayan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh, on his Facebook page.

“The key components of conducting effective foreign policy are, of course, professionalism and patriotism. Professionalism and patriotism are cultivated through appropriate upbringing and education. It is a continuous, endless process. In this context, the study of the history of diplomacy is particularly significant—this includes knowledge of domestic key events and actors, as well as pride in them and their achievements. Here, Armenian diplomacy, especially its Artsakh section, truly has fundamental accomplishments.

The 13th century was especially important for these achievements, marking a truly fateful period. The Mongol conquests began, radically altering the geopolitical landscape of the world and the history of humanity. The Mongol invasions devastated many countries and killed millions of people. Among the regions hardest hit by their campaigns and the military-political battles occurring here were the Caucasus, the Middle East, and the Near East.

In these difficult conditions, Artsakh diplomacy managed, without exaggeration, to save the Armenian people from terrible and perhaps irreversible losses. This was made possible under the leadership of one of the greatest representatives of the Armenian people, statehood, and diplomacy—King Hasan-Jalal of Artsakh, from the Khachen and Aran dynasties. Through his multilayered political strategy and visits to the Mongolian capital Karakorum, along with meetings and negotiations with the Great Khan of Mongolia, not only was Artsakh saved from the Mongol incursions but also all of Eastern Armenia and part of Western Armenia. Moreover, the Mongols began to assist Armenians in the fight against other enemies.”
