Four Arrested on Suspicion of ATM Theft in Kajaran

In the Syunik Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee, several circumstances have been determined regarding the attempted theft that occurred today on Khanzhyan Street in the city of Kajaran.

According to preliminary data, around 04:40 on March 30, 2022, a group of individuals, in conspiracy to secretly steal someone else's property and armed, illegally entered a building on the mentioned street and attempted to commit theft from an ATM located there.

Police officers arrived at the scene based on the emergency call, and upon seeing them, one of the suspects fired a shot at the police officers with an assault rifle. Various types of technical tools—work tools, welding devices—as well as a fired bullet, cartridge, and other paraphernalia used by the group to illegally enter the building were discovered at the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of articles 34-177, part 2, points 1 and 3, 235, part 2, and 316, part 2 of the RA Criminal Code in the Syunik Regional Investigation Department. As a result of the measures taken, three residents of Syunik region have been arrested on suspicion of committing this crime.

Furthermore, the investigation revealed that two of the arrested individuals, together with another resident of Kajaran, attempted to commit theft from an ATM located on Abovyan Street in the city on March 17, 2022, around 04:20, based on preliminary agreement, for which a criminal case has been initiated under the same articles of the Criminal Code.

A decision has been made to consolidate the aforementioned criminal cases and conduct a joint preliminary investigation. Appropriate examinations have been appointed in the criminal case, and several individuals have been interrogated. An ‘AK 74’ type assault rifle and an ‘RGD’ type grenade have been submitted to the prosecuting body. An instruction has been issued to the investigative body. The investigation is ongoing.
