Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Issues Statement on Armenia
Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry has issued a statement regarding the announcement made by the Armenian National Security Council on March 28.
The statement particularly emphasizes that "the immediate cause of increased tension in the region is Armenia's failure to fulfill its obligations." The National Security Council's announcement highlighted the importance of activating international deterrence mechanisms, to which Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry has drawn the attention of Armenia's leadership, stating that "humanity has yet to find a better mechanism for international deterrence than international law."
The Foreign Ministry of the aggressive state points out that Armenia is grossly violating international law on one hand while it should not speak of international deterrence mechanisms on the other. "If the members of Armenia’s National Security Council are still unaware of what the best means of international deterrence is, we once again reiterate the fundamental principles of international law, including respect for states' sovereignty and international borders, non-interference in internal affairs, and fulfillment of international obligations," reads the official statement from the state that is subjecting the peaceful population in Artsakh to terror.
The Security Council also reaffirmed the Republic of Armenia's previously stated position and offered the Republic of Azerbaijan to start immediate negotiations regarding a comprehensive peace treaty. In this regard, the Azerbaijani agency noted that "the Azerbaijani side had proposed a peace treaty with Armenia at the highest level a year ago, and a month ago had voiced specific principles on which the treaty should be based."
"If the Armenian side considers the peace treaty issue a serious step rather than yet another public information campaign, then it is time to move on to specific actions. We want to once again emphasize that Azerbaijan is ready for this," the statement from Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry underscores.
