Announcement from the Competition Committee for the Jesus Christ Monument Complex
The competition committee for the monumental Jesus Christ statue complex has issued a statement regarding the position of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
The statement reads:
“As you already know, the Jesus Christ monumental statue complex committee has summarized the first phase of the competition, allowing 21 authors a one-month period to refine their works. We would like to express our satisfaction that public discourse has been established, as we continue to receive hundreds of suggestions from Armenia, the Diaspora, and Artsakh regarding the architectural solutions, installation locations, and other issues related to the Jesus Christ monumental statue complex.
The position of the Armenian Apostolic Church is very important and appreciated. At the same time, we would like to reaffirm that the Jesus Christ statue complex is an architectural monument aimed at becoming a symbol of unity not only for the Armenian people but for humanity as a whole. Moreover, this monumental structure has great potential to become the calling card of the first Christian state in the world and to attract a large number of tourists.
Once again, we thank the supporters of the idea and are confident that in this divinely pleasing mission, we are united.”
It should be noted that the initiative to install the statue of Jesus Christ was launched by the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Gagik Tsarukyan.
