What Consequences Will the Mirror Withdrawal of Forces in Yeraskh Have? ‘Hraparak’
‘Hraparak’ newspaper reports: During a government meeting, Nikol Pashinyan announced yesterday that Armenia has proposed a mirror withdrawal of forces in the Yeraskh area, which he believes will resolve one of the hottest issues of the past 1.5 years. “We proposed that they withdraw some positions from our territory in the Yeraskh section, and we will also withdraw some positions from their territory,” he said, adding that the Armenian side is awaiting Azerbaijan's response to this proposal.
One of the fighters who participated in the battles of Yeraskh and was part of the team that captured the Nairi heights told us in an interview that Pashinyan's statement is very dangerous. “It is true that the contact line in the Yeraskh area resembles a zigzag, and in some places we are on their territory, while in others they are on ours. However, there are heights under our control, and it would be wrong to relinquish those positions. If it is not clarified from which areas we should withdraw how much, we will ultimately concede important heights, and our positions may even approach the Yeravan-Yeraskh interstate road,” he stated.
