Mirzoyan Discusses the Situation in Artsakh with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State

On March 24, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, had a phone conversation with Karen Donfried, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the parties addressed issues of regional security.

The Armenian Foreign Minister presented the situation created by Azerbaijan's violation of the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh and the intrusion into the village of Parukh. Mirzoyan emphasized that Azerbaijan is grossly violating the commitments enshrined in the trilateral statements, threatening regional stability and peace.

Ararat Mirzoyan also addressed the Azerbaijani actions aimed at targeting the civilian population to create a humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, exerting psychological pressure, and deliberately obstructing the normal functioning of vital infrastructure. He highlighted that these actions are blatant manifestations of Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing and anti-Armenian policies.

In this regard, the Minister stressed the need for a targeted and clear response from the international community, including the United States. Both sides also emphasized the importance of implementing steps aimed at de-escalating the situation.

During the phone conversation, the head of the Armenian foreign policy agency presented Armenia's position on starting negotiations for a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The interlocutors also discussed the dialogue process between Armenia and Turkey.
