Healthcare Workers Report Unpaid Salaries Since December Due to Government Funding Issues
Employees of several healthcare institutions in Armenia have not received their salaries since December due to the government not transferring funds to the ministry.
This was stated by an employee from the hotlines operating for COVID-19 positive cases or citizens exhibiting symptoms in a conversation with Auroranews. The source mentioned that the issue specifically affects healthcare facilities dealing with COVID-19 treatment.
“The problem is that this situation only exists in COVID hospitals. We have been waiting a long time for our salaries, but the money is being delayed significantly. Many employees are facing food insecurity; this situation is unsustainable. Other hospitals do not have similar issues,” said our interlocutor.
When asked about the response from the Ministry of Health regarding this problem, they replied: “They say they know we haven’t been paid, but we don’t have any guilt for the government not allocating funds.”
Auroranews contacted the Ministry of Health for clarification. They confirmed the information, stating that there is indeed an issue with salary payments. “There are debts accumulating since December; we are aware and are awaiting a decision from the government,” said the ministry.
