All Schools Should Pray in Honor of Russia, Putin's Advisor Says
Vladimir Medinsky, an advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin and head of the Russian delegation in negotiations with Ukraine, has proposed that all schools in the country begin their day with a morning prayer in honor of Russia. According to Russian media reports, Medinsky noted that a similar mandatory prayer exists in the United States.
He stated that in the United States, all public and private schools have started the school day with a brief prayer for America, its symbols, and its flag for 150 years. "We should exchange the tradition of praying for the country, its state symbols, and flag," declared Medinsky, who has also previously served as Russia's Minister of Culture.
He emphasized that schools should start praying from today and that steps should be taken to enshrine this in law. It is worth noting that the U.S. Supreme Court prohibited mandatory prayer in schools in 1962.
