The United States Imposes New Sanctions Against Russia: What Are They?
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed new sanctions on dozens of Russian defense companies and 328 members of the State Duma. This was reported by РИА Новости.
According to the agency, the new restrictions from the U.S. concern 48 Russian companies, which will be deprived of Western technologies and financial resources.
It is also noted that Washington has imposed sanctions against major Russian helicopter manufacturing companies.
The U.S. Department reminded that the lower house of the Russian parliament, whose members are now sanctioned, had approved President Vladimir Putin's request to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. Washington has considered the recognition of these republics as a 'pretext to justify Russian troops' entry into Ukraine.'
The announced sanctions were adopted on March 23. Subsequently, U.S. President Joe Biden's national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, stated that the new restrictions would pertain to "political figures, oligarchs, and a number of organizations."
According to him, G7 countries will coordinate mechanisms to block options for circumventing sanctions against Moscow.
