Climate Change Adaptation is a Priority for Armenia, Minister Says

Every year on March 23, the entire hydrometeorological community celebrates its professional holiday, World Meteorological Day, which has been recognized in our republic since 2004 as Meteorologist Day. This was noted by the Minister of Environment Hakob Simidian on his Facebook page, congratulating meteorologists on their professional holiday.

“Every year, this day is marked with a specific slogan, drawing attention to a relevant topic in the field at that time. The slogan for Meteorologist Day in 2022 is ‘Early Warning, Early Action,’ which emphasizes the importance of meteorological and hydrological information in disaster risk reduction.

It is a fact that climate change, manifested through extreme weather events, is already highly visible in all parts of the world. We are witnessing more intense heatwaves, droughts, and forest fires, and therefore the adaptation to climate change is one of the priorities of the Republic of Armenia.

On this festive day, I want to highlight the role and significance of your work in the rapidly changing world. The key to solving the numerous challenges we face is in your hands.

On this professional holiday, I would like to express my gratitude to the staff of the Hydro-meteorological and Monitoring Center and the Zvartnots Aviation Meteorological Center for their professionalism and dedication to work, wishing you good health, peace, and continued success in your responsible activities,” the minister's congratulatory message reads.
