Use of Wild Animal Species in Circuses in Armenia to be Prohibited

The use of wild animal species in circuses in Armenia will be prohibited, as the decision was adopted during today’s session of the National Assembly.

“The adoption of the package of bills is driven by the need to ensure the protection, conservation, reproduction, and sustainable use of the country's fauna, as well as the regulation of the legal relations regarding the keeping and use of wild animals, including those listed in the Red Book, in captivity and semi-free conditions, along with the reduction of administration,” stated Gayane Gabrielyan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia.

The draft law establishes that the use of wild animal species included in the list approved by the authorized body of the Republic of Armenia for the purpose of wildlife protection is prohibited in circuses.
