Traffic Paralyzed: Hundreds of Vehicles Stuck from Shinuhr to Kapan
The southern regions of Armenia—Meger, Kajaran, Kapan, as well as the road connecting the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Goris-Yerevan (M-2) highway—are in a state of paralysis, reports syuniacyerkir.am.
It is noted that hundreds of vehicles are stranded from the Shinuhr intersection to Kapan, with some blocked in the snow.
“For three days, dozens of buses coming from Iran to Armenia have been trapped in the snow, which naturally includes children and women. Heavy-duty trucks are also stuck, some with trailers carrying large livestock bought in Armenia and being transported to Persia. Thus, for three days...” the site reports.
There are particularly large accumulations of trucks near the entrance to Kapan city, on Devil’s Bridge, at the Shinuhr intersection, and in many other locations.
According to the site’s information, snowplows are not conducting regular operations on the road. “The only place where we witnessed such work was in the winding roads from Devil’s Bridge to Tatev. However, in the Upper Khotanan-Tatev section, not a single snowplow was operational by 1 PM. Two broken snowplows were near Tandzaver, requesting assistance,” the site writes.
It's worth mentioning that due to snow, the interstate highway connecting Artsakh to Armenia, particularly the Lisagor-Goris-Sisian-“Zanger”-Saravan section, is closed. Additionally, the roads in the Askeran region, including Shosh, Mkhitarashen, Khachmach, Sznek, Karmir village, Rev, Sarushen, and the Southern community are also closed. In this area, the snow layer is 1 meter high.
