Armenia Engages Actively in Negotiations with Iran on North-South Route Development
Armenia continues to deepen its traditional friendly relations with Iran. To this end, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi twice. According to Armenpress, this was stated by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a meeting of the National Assembly's Committee on Foreign Relations.
"In order to strengthen traditional friendly relations with Iran, on August 5, 2021, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi during a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran. The next meeting took place on September 17 of the same year in Dushanbe. These meetings addressed issues related to the further development of Armenian-Iranian multilateral relations and ongoing processes in the region," said Mirzoyan.
The Foreign Minister noted that at the end of the year, the Iranian government decided to establish a consulate general in Kapan, and the Armenian side is discussing the opening of a consulate general in Tabriz. "Active negotiations are underway with Iran regarding the formation of the North-South international transport route," Mirzoyan concluded.
