‘That Issue is Not Within the Authority of Armenia’: Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Responds to Armenia’s Complaint

‘The question of holding any events in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the participation of international representatives in such an event is not within Armenia’s jurisdiction.’ This was stated by Leyla Abdullayeva, the head of the press service of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, in response to a query regarding Armenia’s complaint to the UN representative’s participation in the conference held in Shushi, as reported by minval.az.

Abdullayeva described Armenia’s interference as unacceptable, calling it ‘intervention in the internal affairs of another state.’

‘Armenia’s ongoing territorial claims against Azerbaijan demonstrate that this country has not drawn the right conclusions from the 44-day war. This position of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry is nothing more than an attempt to impede the peacekeeping efforts undertaken by Azerbaijan in collaboration with leading members of the international community,’ she said and added that Shushi is ‘part of the territory of Azerbaijan.’

‘This city, a cradle of Azerbaijani culture, along with other territories, was liberated in 2020, restoring our territorial integrity. The UN has never adopted a neutral position regarding the previous Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict; on the contrary, it has supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in the resolutions adopted by the General Assembly and the Security Council. In this regard, it is unclear what ‘neutral status’ the Armenian Foreign Ministry is calling for the restoration of,’ she added.

In conclusion, we would like to repeat that the sooner Armenia accepts the realities of the post-war period in the region, the more beneficial it will be for itself,’ Abdullayeva stated.

It should be noted that the Armenian Foreign Ministry submitted a formal complaint to the UN representative regarding the involvement of the UN office in the event organized in Shushi.
