19-Year-Old Student Dies in Explosion in Arin Berd, Yerevan: Details
An explosion in one of the houses on Arin Berd Street in Yerevan, which has claimed the life of a young man, was most likely due to a gas leak. This information was shared with Sputnik Armenia by Ruben Hakobyan, head of the Technical Inspection and Gas Control Department at Gazprom Armenia.
Recall that this morning an explosion with a collapse occurred at 140/1 on 4th Lane of Arin Berd Street. The body of the young man was discovered at the scene.
The collapse took place in an annex where a liquefied gas cylinder had been installed. The house to which the annex is connected is gasified, and the equipment is arranged according to the gasification project, where safety systems have also been installed, confirming that everything is normal. “I saw pictures and videos showing that the liquefied gas cylinder was connected to the gas appliance in the annex,” said Hakobyan.
According to him, the young man living there voluntarily placed the liquefied gas cylinder, and the installation of liquefied gas is not regulated by Gazprom Armenia; it is the state inspection authorities that are responsible for these matters. Hakobyan added that there is a high probability that there was a leak, as evidenced by the white trace on the gas cylinder, since when there is a leak, a certain area of the cylinder turns white.
“There was a leak from the liquefied gas cylinder or the appliance, and the appliance was thrown aside by the explosion,” Hakobyan stated.
