Sergey Lavrov Declares That Moscow Never Betrays Its Friends
Russia is not interested in hindering the restoration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) because the lifting of the oil embargo against Iran will allow Russian oil to replace it in the global market. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow never betrays its friends.
“We never betray our friends in politics. Venezuela is our friend; Iran is a very close country to us. Second, we are not thinking about our own skin. The Americans are thinking about theirs. They have started to think, ‘We need to punish the Russians, and in that case, God help the Caracas regime, God help Iran; let’s quickly restore this program, only we now punish the Russians,’” Lavrov said during a meeting with participants of the “Leaders of Russia” competition.
According to him, this reflects the issues connected not so much with international institutions as with the so-called democracy, which, as it turned out, is not liberal at all and is not democracy at all.
The Russian Foreign Minister also noted that he sees no reason to believe that the OPEC+ mechanism will collapse, as no one is interested in that.
Commenting on the American desire to replace Russian oil, Lavrov stated that Iran and Venezuela believe that only OPEC+ can reconcile the quotas for each participant.
