VIDEO: A 40-Year-Old Man Arrested for Stealing Money from Parents of Missing Soldiers
A 40-year-old man has stolen 1.5 million AMD from parents of soldiers who died in the war, deceiving them by claiming that their loved ones were not dead but in captivity. He then convinced the relatives to bribe him for the return of these soldiers to Armenia. More details have been reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
According to the statement, "In the investigation department of Gegharkunik region of the RA Investigative Committee, within the framework of the criminal case being investigated, a series of investigative and procedural actions were carried out, and urgent measures were implemented in cooperation with the staff of the RA Police, which led to the discovery of a 40-year-old man who was wanted for fraud."
The investigation further revealed that "The 40-year-old man, having learned that several conscript soldiers participated in the war unleashed by the Azerbaijani Republic against the Artsakh Republic on September 27, 2020, and their whereabouts were unknown, deceived the relatives of these soldiers during the period from February to April 2021, convincing them that their loved ones were not dead but captive. He then convinced the relatives to give him bribes to return the mentioned soldiers to Armenia, thereby fraudulently stealing a total of 1,558,863 AMD from these individuals."
As a result of the necessary measures taken, the man was located on March 17, 2022, and presented to the prosecuting authority. He has been arrested. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing," the statement noted.
