New Theory Test Questions for Driver's License Issuance to Change

In about a month, the theoretical test questions for obtaining a driver's license will be changed. This was reported by the Police of the Republic of Armenia, detailing that based on a government decision from March 26, 2020, which came into effect on January 1 of last year, Armenia has joined the European Union member states in adopting a model for driver’s license forms, rules for conducting theoretical and practical tests, health criteria for applicants, and all necessary legal regulations as per the directive adopted by the European Parliament and Council.

According to the new regulations, theoretical tests for obtaining a driver's license will be available not only in Armenian but also in English, Russian, Persian, and Arabic. The question bank for knowledge verification tests has expanded, adding an additional 500 questions to the previous 600, making a total of 1100. Instead of 10 questions for the theoretical test, there will now be 20 questions, and the duration of the test has increased from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.

The increase in questions aims to minimize the repetition of the same questions across different tests. There was also a concern about candidates providing mechanical answers to the questions. Often, individuals would memorize answers or rely on their visual skills to gather positive scores in the theoretical examination but would fail the practical test, which was conducted under the same rules but in real conditions.

The new question banks are already available on the official police website police.am. The question banks can be accessed in Armenian, English, Russian, Persian, and Arabic. With the launch of the new question banks, examinations will commence on April 11.

Citizens applying for a driver's license must submit a scheduling request via the website roadpolice.am. They are required to present an identification document to the traffic police registration and examination division. Foreign citizens must provide identification documents as well as proof of legal residence in Armenia, which can be a residence card. Stateless persons are required to present a travel document issued by a foreign state along with a residence certificate proving their long-term stay in Armenia or any document confirming their legal residence in the country.

Recognized refugees and individuals granted political asylum must present a convention travel document, whereas asylum seekers need to submit an asylum seeker identification certificate, and refugees with temporary protection must provide a temporary asylum certificate.
