Why not include Armenia if we talk about peace and stability? - Cavusoglu
The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has stated that Armenia should respond positively to the peace agreement proposed by Azerbaijan, as it would be beneficial for everyone. This was reported by Turkish media during the closing of a conference held in Antalya.
“In the Caucasus, we have trilateral and quadrilateral mechanisms. If relations are regulated and there is a peace agreement, then why not include Armenia as well, if we are talking about peace and stability? However, Armenia must also have the same understanding. The war is over, and Armenia and Azerbaijan should sit down and negotiate; in my opinion, there should not be a third party in the negotiations on the peace agreement. If something interests us is necessary, we will of course support it,” said Çavuşoğlu.
He noted that they welcome any steps taken between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Çavuşoğlu referred to his meeting with the Armenian Foreign Minister the day before and stated that it had been very productive. “We talked about what is needed for the complete normalization of relations. I said that we expect a positive response from Armenia to the peace treaty proposed by Azerbaijan, as it would be advantageous for everyone,” said Çavuşoğlu.
He expressed hope that negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan would start soon, as they are also time-consuming; the parties will present their proposals and study them. However, he emphasized that the sooner they start, the better.
