Armenian Ambassador Provides Details on the Situation in Ukraine
The Armenian Ambassador to Ukraine, Vladimir Karapetyan, shared insights regarding the unfolding events in Ukraine and the efforts being undertaken by the embassy in an interview with "Armenpress".
Vladimir Karapetyan reported that fighting continues in various regions of Ukraine, including the northern, eastern, and southern areas, as well as on the outskirts of the capital, Kyiv. The ambassador noted that the entire embassy staff is in constant, round-the-clock communication with Armenian citizens, providing advisory assistance regarding routes and opportunities for traveling from Ukraine to Armenia, as well as processing and issuing the necessary documents for this purpose.
Current Developments in Ukraine
Currently, battles are ongoing in various regions of Ukraine, including near the capital, Kyiv. On March 3, the second round of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations took place in Belarus, resulting in some encouraging agreements, particularly regarding humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians and the temporary cessation of hostilities in the areas where these corridors will operate. Armenia has expressed its stance on this matter and is hopeful that solutions can be reached at the negotiating table.
Assistance Provided by the Embassy to Armenian Citizens
The embassy's staff maintains constant, round-the-clock contact with Armenian citizens, offering advisory assistance on routes and opportunities for traveling from Ukraine to Armenia, as well as processing and issuing the necessary documents for this purpose. Within modest capabilities, the embassy, in collaboration with the Armenian community in Ukraine, has assisted those wishing to leave their homes and cities. It's crucial to note that several hundred thousand Armenians reside in Ukraine, a significant portion of whom are Armenian citizens. This highlights the regime and workload under which the embassy operates in Kyiv, responding to numerous calls (with thousands received) and assisting dozens of citizens seeking help.
Compared to other embassies, not only smaller but also larger ones, ours had an unprecedented volume of workload due to the size of the community and the number of requests.
How Many Armenian Citizens Are in Ukraine and Is Support Provided to Armenian Citizens of Ukraine?
It is difficult to specify an exact number, as only a small fraction of citizens undergo consular registration, which is a voluntary process. Regarding Armenian citizens who hold Ukrainian citizenship, it should be noted that a significant number of calls we receive come from Ukrainian citizens. I want to remind everyone of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement that Armenia is ready to host Armenians arriving from Ukraine. We are also prepared to provide necessary assistance to individuals holding Ukrainian citizenship crossing the Armenian border, regardless of their ethnicity.
