Video: 'We are being robbed and unrest is being instigated' - Moldovans protest against the behavior of Ukrainian refugees

Videos are circulating on social media where Moldovans are expressing their grievances towards Ukrainian refugees. The local population is complaining about the disrespectful behavior of the refugees. According to iz.ru, one local resident mentioned that some refugees accommodated in a hotel were upset due to the pool being closed. They also recounted an incident at a food venue, where a Ukrainian, after ordering several burgers, showed his ID instead of paying for his order, hoping to receive free service due to the situation surrounding Ukraine.

It is also noted that there are frequent incidents where, when attempting to communicate with Ukrainian refugees in Russian, they react aggressively towards people. A Moldovan girl stated, “We welcomed you warmly. We provided you with free accommodation, water, food, and what you needed. Who are you to yell at a girl for speaking to you in Russian? I think it is time to close the borders because this is no longer tolerable. You were received with great warmth.”

Another Moldovan recounted an event where Ukrainians, who had received asylum status in Moldova, robbed those who had hosted them in their homes. “Seventy percent of Ukrainian refugees roam around and continuously instigate fights for speaking to them in Russian, yelling 'Glory to Ukraine.' You must understand that people are trying to communicate with you in a language you can understand,” said another Moldovan.

Another incident highlighting the aggression towards Russian was reported: “A refugee from Ukraine arrived at a hotel and entered a restaurant. He attacked the waitress because she spoke in Russian. Do not come to our country to teach us how to speak. I ask you to show respect for us, as we have welcomed everyone with open arms and big hearts in our small country,” the girl stated.

Some Ukrainians are also expressing discontent toward their compatriots who have left the country, saying, “It is good that you have already fled, but be compassionate towards your fellow countrymen and try to help them escape the war zone as well.” Ukrainians are urging their compatriots to “behave normally in foreign countries.”

As of February 26, Moldova has already accepted about 25,000 refugees from Ukraine, according to Gazeta.Ru. Additionally, Moldova has received 430 applications for asylum in the country.
