Two More Injured in Tragic Accident in Zolakar Village Have Died

According to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, a criminal case has been initiated based on the tragic road accident that took place in the administrative area of Zolakar village in Gegharkunik Province on February 11. The decision was made by investigator Arthur Manukyan under Article 242, Part 3 of the RA Criminal Code, which pertains to road traffic accidents resulting in the deaths of two or more individuals.

As reported by Shamshyan.com, the case was opened following the serious and tragic accident that occurred on February 11. During the preliminary investigation, police from the Martuni Division and investigative personnel established that a Mercedes vehicle was driven by 52-year-old Seyran Tovmasyan, a resident of Yerevan, while a Volkswagen was driven by 48-year-old Misak Abroyan from Vardenik village.

In the accident, a 60-year-old passenger, Mekhak Melkonyan from Tovinar village, died at the scene. Meanwhile, the two drivers and 66-year-old Anahit Sargsyan, 65-year-old Sofik Sargsyan, and 56-year-old Gayane Petrosyan—all residents of Vardenik village—sustained injuries and were taken to the Martuni Medical Center.

According to a photojournalist's report, one of the hospitalized individuals, Anahit Sargsyan, passed away on February 14, while Sofik Sargsyan died on February 27.

As previously reported from the accident scene, the serious crash occurred on February 11 around 1:30 PM on the Martuni-Vardenis highway, at the 8th kilometer mark within the administrative territory of Zolakar village, when the Mercedes and Volkswagen Vento collided. As a result of the accident, one person died on the spot, while four others were hospitalized with injuries.
