Shoigu Informs Putin that Strategic Forces Have Started Enhancing Alertness

The strategic missile forces, Northern and Pacific fleets, and long-range aviation have commenced combat duty with enhanced capabilities. This was reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, as reported by rbc.ru.

Putin ordered the special readiness of deterrent forces to be activated the day before February 27. These deterrent forces also include strategic nuclear forces. The president made this announcement in the context of the military operation in Ukraine and preparations for negotiations with Kyiv. Meetings between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations began at noon on February 28, taking place in the Gomel region of Belarus.

“Senior officials from leading NATO countries are making aggressive statements against our country. I order the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff to introduce a special regime of combat duty in the Russian army's nuclear (deterrent) forces,” Putin stated at a meeting with Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov.
