Farmers Fear Resuming Work as They Are Prevented from Approaching, Says Khramort Village Head
Yesterday and today, the situation in Khramort remains calm, as Russian peacekeepers have been negotiating with the Azerbaijanis, and the results will likely be known tomorrow or the day after. We hope there will be a positive outcome. This was stated by Zoric Abrahamyan, the head of Khramort village in the Askeran region of Artsakh, in an interview with Tert.am.
“Currently, agricultural activities have been suspended, and we are not allowed to get close. Last time, shots were fired at a tractor; the tractor driver and the machinery were unharmed, but nonetheless, the villagers are afraid to resume their work, and we are waiting for the negotiations to conclude,” said Abrahamyan.
The village head noted that on the day of the liberation of Khojalu, they had announced prayers over loudspeakers. “It was done in such a way that the sound was heard all over the village, announcing that we should leave the area.”
In Abrahamyan's view, the Azerbaijanis' goal is to exert psychological pressure on the villagers. “They are trying to create panic among the people, to make them disillusioned, but they will not succeed in that. Our people are well aware that we have no place to go; where are we supposed to go? We will die on this land, and we will live on this land. The time will come, and they will realize that we are not going anywhere,” he explained.
According to the community leader, there is no panic among the villagers due to the Azerbaijanis' provocations; everyone is conscious of the actual aims behind the Azerbaijanis' provocations. It is noteworthy that on February 25, the Azerbaijanis from positions adjacent to Khramort village urged the residents in Armenian over loudspeakers to leave the village, claiming it belonged to them.
