Ukrainian Air Defense Destroys Its Own Fighter Jet Over Kyiv
A Ukrainian fighter jet has been shot down by its own air defense forces over the skies of Kyiv, as reported by a source from the Russian Defense Ministry to RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had announced what he termed a suspected bombing of residential areas in the city, likening it to events from 1941.
“No missile strike has been conducted against Kyiv by the Russian armed forces,” the source stated. They noted that a bright flash seen in the night sky over the capital on February 25, followed by the fighter’s crash into a residential building, has an entirely different explanation.
“Last night, a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter jet was performing air patrol missions over Kyiv. By mistake, one of the Ukrainian air defense missile systems, located near Kyiv, misidentified it as a target and engaged it using normal methods,” the source explained.
