EU to Ban Sale of Aircraft to Russian Airlines

The European Union will prohibit the sale of aircraft and equipment to Russian airlines, announced Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

“We are banning all sales of aircraft, spare parts, and equipment to Russian airlines. This will lead to the degradation of a key sector of the Russian economy and restrict the country’s capabilities in communications. Three-quarters of Russia's current commercial air fleet was built in the EU, the US, and Canada. This is why they are seriously dependent on that,” she stated.

According to Leyen, the new European energy sanctions make the modernization of Russian oil refineries “impossible.” Furthermore, the restrictions will focus on limiting access to “key technologies” such as semiconductors and advanced software.
